Tesco and Rotary Club Of Lisburn appeals to Lisburn to help raise £1000,000 this Christmas
The Vice-President of Lisburn Rotary Club, Dale Orr, has appealed to the people of Lisburn to dig deep this year and support the ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign, which is once again being run in partnership with Tesco.
The campaign, which will run from 8th – 22nd December, aims to raise as much money as possible for a number of local charities – including CLIC Sargent, Motor Neurone, Cancer Research UK and the Children’s Heartbeat Trust.
Following the success of last year’s campaign, when one Rotary Club in Northern Ireland raised over £20,000 at a local Tesco store, the organisation has this year set an ambitious target of £100,000.
The ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign will see a series of 25ft Christmas trees erected at a number of Tesco stores across the province, including the Lisburn store.
Customers at the store will be invited to support one of the two nominated charities by purchasing the relevant charity ribbon, which will then be attached to the tree by representatives from the local club.
Mr Orr said: “I think our motivation for this year’s ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign comes from the opportunity to work with the local community of Lisburn to do something positive over the Christmas period. All help is greatly appreciated, it is giving people the chance to get involved in contributing to local charities.
“Part of Lisburn Rotary’s theme for this year is working ‘with the community, for the community’ and this gives us an excellent opportunity to do exactly that – at a special time of the year.
“Throughout our fundraising events this year we have seen that the generous people of Lisburn have not been put off by the recession – and for that we are very grateful”
Anne Broome, community champion at Tesco Lisburn, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Lisburn Rotary Club in this year’s ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign.
“Just like Rotary, Tesco is very much at the heart of the local community. We strive to give as much as possible back to the local community and people in need through our annual charity collections, activities organised by the dedicated community champions in each store and larger campaigns such as this.
“The festive season is our busiest time of year, when we will see thousands of shoppers come through our doors everyday. I would appeal to them to give generously to this fantastic cause and really make a difference this Christmas.”
You can donate to the ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign at Tesco Lisburn by purchasing a ribbon for the Christmas tree from Wednesday 8th – Wednesday 22nd December. For more information, visit www.lisburnrotary.co.uk
