JohnMcDonough Millennium Charity Golf Event
This prestigious Golf event has been going on annually since 2000 raising money for charities through Rotary.
This is the ninth year it has been played for and it was organised for 27th June at Dunmurry Golf Club
This was the final year of this event and once again the weather tried hard to intervene with very heavy rain in the morning.
Thanks to the Dunmurry Golf Club greens staff and Tony Cassidy the Golf manager, the course was playable and the rain eased off shortly after the shotgun start at 2.30 and we had a pleasant afternoon.
Some 17 fourball took part and many praised the condition of the course. After a buffet meal, prizes were presented to the winning team and individual winners. Guest speaker Colin Barclay then entertained us.
Liam McCartneys Team took the team prize with Geoff Clarkes team as runners up. Howard Walker with 41 points won the individual prize and was presented with the John McDonough Millennium Cup. Graham Crothers and Adam Spence collected the nearest the pin prizes.
Thanks to all who took part and also to generous donations from others, the day raised £2462.
This included a large donation from the members of Holywood 87 Hockey Club in memory of Norman Crawford
The proceeds were presented to the Rotary Club of Lisburn to distribute to the two chosen charities.
Macmillan Cancer Support which provided great support to Norman Crawford a good friend and a regular participant in the outing before his untimely death from cancer
Masicorp a body involved in helping the township of Masiphumelele an informal settlement of some 40000 people near to Cape Town
