Fund raising Evening at Angelos
A very successful and enjoyable fellowship evening of good food and fine wines was enjoyed by a large number of Rotarians and their partners and friends.
Angelo as usual was a great host assisted by his daughters.
Total moneys raised on the evening enabled the Club to purchase a new projector and sound system for use at weekly meetings.
Jim Matchett and his Fellowship committee deserve great credit for organising this memorable evening.

Tree of Life
Our first Tree of Life was delivered promptly at 10.00am on Sunday morning by Sam Crowe of RC OF Carrickfergus. Sam positioned the 30ft tree off a 40ft truck with the aid of a telescopic crane. It was a miracle of precsion, but also the mark of a rotarian with experience!Rotarians got up early and helped Sam finally position the tree into the bespoke base. Thanks to Sam and his team for their help and guidance over the last 2 months. Our Tree of Life is mounted into a 6ft by 6ft concrete base which is nearly 1ft thick The base is nearly 2 tonnes in weight! Colin Suckling hired a mobile lift early on wednesday morning, which helped us establish a number of vertical ribbons to tie an estimated 10,000 ribbons on to the tree. These ribbons will cover the tree over the next 13 days. It`s amazing what rotarians can do when their fired up! John McIlroy overcame his fears and helped Pres Trevor tie the ribbons to the top of the tree.President Trevor announced at our Friday meeting “This is a great project for our club to complete. It is frabric and what Rotary and Inner Wheel stand for. Lisburn along with other 5 trees in Northern Ireland will raise a hugh a amount of money for some very importantlocal charities.Every one will agree that this project has tested our powers of communication in Rotary and Inner Wheel. Every Rotarian and Inner Wheeler in our has contributed in some way and when the project is completed we will have involved over 125 people giving of their time and commitment. This is true testament of why people join Rotary or Inner Wheel. -

Tesco and Rotary Club Of Lisburn appeals to Lisburn to help raise £1000,000 this Christmas
The Vice-President of Lisburn Rotary Club, Dale Orr, has appealed to the people of Lisburn to dig deep this year and support the ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign, which is once again being run in partnership with Tesco.
The campaign, which will run from 8th – 22nd December, aims to raise as much money as possible for a number of local charities – including CLIC Sargent, Motor Neurone, Cancer Research UK and the Children’s Heartbeat Trust.
Following the success of last year’s campaign, when one Rotary Club in Northern Ireland raised over £20,000 at a local Tesco store, the organisation has this year set an ambitious target of £100,000.
The ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign will see a series of 25ft Christmas trees erected at a number of Tesco stores across the province, including the Lisburn store.
Customers at the store will be invited to support one of the two nominated charities by purchasing the relevant charity ribbon, which will then be attached to the tree by representatives from the local club.
Mr Orr said: “I think our motivation for this year’s ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign comes from the opportunity to work with the local community of Lisburn to do something positive over the Christmas period. All help is greatly appreciated, it is giving people the chance to get involved in contributing to local charities.
“Part of Lisburn Rotary’s theme for this year is working ‘with the community, for the community’ and this gives us an excellent opportunity to do exactly that – at a special time of the year.
“Throughout our fundraising events this year we have seen that the generous people of Lisburn have not been put off by the recession – and for that we are very grateful”
Anne Broome, community champion at Tesco Lisburn, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Lisburn Rotary Club in this year’s ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign.
“Just like Rotary, Tesco is very much at the heart of the local community. We strive to give as much as possible back to the local community and people in need through our annual charity collections, activities organised by the dedicated community champions in each store and larger campaigns such as this.
“The festive season is our busiest time of year, when we will see thousands of shoppers come through our doors everyday. I would appeal to them to give generously to this fantastic cause and really make a difference this Christmas.”
You can donate to the ‘Thank you for Life’ campaign at Tesco Lisburn by purchasing a ribbon for the Christmas tree from Wednesday 8th – Wednesday 22nd December. For more information, visit www.lisburnrotary.co.uk
